I really quite enjoyed "I Don't Fuck With You" a couple of years back, and I think it was quite a showcase of Big Sean's sometimes impressive ability at pulling off clever and humourous punchlines. I say "sometimes", because this ability isn't always present in Big Sean's wordplay. From opinions that I have read and watched on Big Sean, he's actually quite notorious for crossing the line in to "corny" way too often, and yeah, his worst material can be quite cringeworthy to listen to. All in all, though, the guy had enough potential for me to give his new material a shot, so here we are. If there is a positive to this album which means he doesn't stray too off-topic and doesn't drop many wack lines, it is that this album is basically about being grateful to have made it to this point in his rap career and looking back on what people have done to support him along his journey to stardom. Sure, it might not be the most original take on rap music, but for the most part, he does quite well. He has a generally good flow, some catchy beats at times, doesn't have any particularly bad punchlines, and the album overall is perfectly competent. Overall, I wouldn't say that there are any outstanding tracks here, with the best songs here just scraping in to my "like" category, but there's nothing here truly great. At the very least, I don't think there's all that much I dislike, maybe a song or two. Those would probably be "Jump Out The Window", which is probably the least interesting song on the record, and "No Favors", which has a frustratingly annoying beat, and is only propped up by an intriguing Eminem guest verse, which means that it is only just slightly the worst song on the record, whereas it would comfortably be the worst song here if he didn't provide his verse. So yeah, a fairly enjoyable and mostly listenable album. P.S. I love that album cover art!
