Album for everyone! Gwen gather differnet producers to give her audienece a sort of mix album...from rock to hip-hop. In fact she tries to be interesting to the ordinary listener! There are some moments on this album in which you say: 'I hope it will never end' and there are some moments in which you yawn but fortunately there are only few of them on the album....In the end, this is solid pop album with great production and catchy melodies! The biggest proof is the success of its singles!
▓ In iedergeval voor "Gwen" een geslaagde soloalbum uit november 2004 !!! Voor de Fans een must om te hebben !!! Voor de neutrale luisteraar, leuk om een keertje naar te luisteren !!! Vandaar 4 sterren !!!
Solid solo debut. Love all the singles, as well as the ecclectic 'Bubblepop Electric' and the beautiful 'The Real Thing'.
This is easily one of my personal favourites of all time. I thrashed this album so much when it came out so I know all of the songs pretty well. I never warmed to the quirkiness of Bubble Pop Electric or the total strange-ness of Long Way 2 Go (which I think is a total dud personally) but the rest of it is just really nice fun pop stuff. Cool is the best on here for me, I also love Serious, The Real Thing and What You Waiting For? It was great to see how well this did back in 2005. 4.8/6.Laatst gewijzigd: 07/06/2017 10:07
Niet aan mij besteed, geef mij maar No Doubt!!!
I was very apprehensive listening to Gwen's 1st solo album after she had kicked some serious ass as the charismatic lead singer of No Doubt. But I am very impressed how she went on her own for the first time.
The first track "What You Waiting For?", was perfect to kicked off the album and to kick off her solo career, exposing her to a new legion of fans and keeping some of her old ones from the times of No Doubt! But there is not a bad track on this album.

This had a fun ride after I listen to this for quite a long while. Love. Angel. Music. Baby was so much better and I can comprehend to consider that this uplift more with all the bubbly pop, hip hop and other upbeat genres than The Sweet Escape.
Good to hear What You're Waiting For?, Cool and Hollaback Girl right now. Although a few of least moments and yet it has to be the silly poppy track "Bubble Pop Electric" and the closing "Long Way To Go". The Real Thing the slow jam mix and Serious were the good tracks on this one. I can see myself that I will play it again and again. Love it!!!!
#34 on my 100 favourite albums of all time
I guess I'm in the minority because frankly, I found this album quite the snoozefest. The singles were decent enough to stand on its own but the second half to be sooo boring. The only things I can really remember from it is that awful cat sound at the beginning of Harajuku Girls. Gwen Stefani doesn't have the star power of other pop girls and she should stick to her band instead, where actual good music gets played.
