every now and then, an album will come along that is above the standard of all the music around it, this is most deffinately one of those times. This album is a masterpiece, and one of the most pleasurable listening experiences I have ever had with an album.

Listening through each track the album tells a story, up to interpretation to each listener, I won't go into what I think the whole album means as such right now but the whole delivery of this album is beautiful. Lana Del Rey is deffinately an artist to watch this year.

I do feel as if this is 2012's answer to "21" by Adele, only this album doesn't appear to have any fillers - I could write non stop about how perfect the album was but instead I will finish by saying I would already consider it one of the greatest albums ever produced and would encourage anybody who asks to buy it. 6*

Edit: That review still stands - This is to add that from the songs from The Paradise Edition that it is still incredible and they are up to the same standard

Very excellent album, I haven't heard an album like this in a long time were every track is great from start to finish, My favourite songs would have to be Video Games, Blue Jeans, Summertime Sadness, Lucky Ones & Dark Paradise, The rest are great aswell, I'd recommend anyone to buy this if you like her first two singles.

I'm quite torn here. The album opens brilliantly, I found the first five tracks simply stunning, and at that point I was certain that I was going to be buying the album in the near future. But from that point, I find it too samey. Individually, all of the remaining tracks are still quite lovely and decent, but to listen to all of them in a row was rather tiresome. I needed something different in there to break it up. So I don't think I could buy the album.

That said, the songs are beautiful and her voice is great - has a real Kate Bush quality on several tracks which is nice. Perhaps if I spend some time getting to know the remaining songs individually I could like the album as a whole more, but at the moment I think it was draining.

Agree with everything that bluezombie said. It's a great album, very cohesive and has almost no filler tracks (Million Dollar Man is the weakest for me and even that is worth 4*), but listening to the whole album was quite a tiring experience. I was quite surprised (not in a good way) by how polished the album is and also overproduced in places. The best example would be the fan favorite National Anthem.... What have they done? The demo was perfect, summery, raw, etc., but the final version is completely lifeless and sounds like a choir of zombies is singing that chorus. The best for me, at this point, would be Blue Jeans.
4.5*

While in parts she succeeds to sound unique, others her downfall seems to be that it sounds too similar. Some of the songs are a little bit on the average side, but 'Video Games', 'Born To Die', 'Blue Jeans', 'Diet Mountain Dew' and 'Summertime Sadness' are my favourites.

A phenomenal album. Dramatic and cinematic and gorgeous and melting. Lana Del Rey is sublime.

Highlights: Video Games, Off To The Races, National Anthem, Radio, Million Dollar Man, Summertime Sadness

First of all, I've only listened to this album once, so it may well change.

But at this stage, I am liking the album without loving it. A lot of the songs off it sound the same, and her vocals rarely vary between songs. However, the singles are amazing! Video Games is in a class of its own within the album.

Besides Born To Die and Blue Jeans, I would also recommend This is What Makes Us Girl and National Anthem.

2017 EDIT: It is certainly one that has grown on me over time. Five years later and the songs still sound fresh and timely. Great stuff.

I should note that my review refers to the standard edition of the album. I've heard many of the complaints about the album are due to the length and I find the extra tracks on the deluxe edition to be somewhat superfluous.

As for the album itself, it's very strong. I've been hooked since "Video Games" and am glad that the album delivers. It could be argued that the combination of the album's sound and title make it a dreary and depressing album, the same could be said of Arcade Fire's "Funeral" which is a big, big favourite of mine and shares similar baroque pop stylings. I find that both albums have very uplifting themes that contradict this conception, and I've been able to happily play through the album multiple times without any fatigue.

Talking of the content of the album itself, I find that nearly every track on the album manages to weave its own identity such that it never really feels like filler (though "Dark Paradise" & "This Is What Makes Us Girls" come close). This helps when listening from start to finish as despite all the singles being at the top of the tracklisting, (and "Video Games" is still my clear highlight) the quality never feels to slip.

For me this is the first quality release of 2012 and I'm happy it managed to score a #1 position in Australia to make up for the singles' faltering in the charts. Excellently produced with her quirky vocals to give it personality. 5.25

Awesome LP - the melancholy production gets a bit tiring but theres no way in hell I'm giving this less than a 6.

Really didn't want to give this an average score but it can be a really frustrating listen, so frustrating I find myself skipping tracks but I just can't help but be captivated by her sultry vocals.
Nothing of real badness on this album but could've been a lot less boring in parts.

Never understood why critics panned this album so much. The general public obviously highly disagreed with them and went out and bought this album. It sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

There are a few songs on the album I skip. But 8 of the songs I absolutely love and listen to them again and again.

Highlights : Born to die, Blue Jeans, Video Games, Summertime Sadness, National Anthem, Diet Mountain Dew, Dark Paradise, Radio.

This album is perfect. Whats sad is that Lana Del Rey's new albums aren't like this one.

Het album waarmee Lana Del Rey bij ons doorbrak was echt wel een straffe bedoeling. En vooral een album dat echt wel een heel mooie score mag krijgen.
