Zayn - Pillowtalk

Eh, nothing about this is good.

Firstly, the song doesn't even sound finished for starters. It sounds like it is going for more of a minimalist sound, but rather, it just sounds rather empty and soulless more than anything else.

Secondly, and this is an important one, the lyrics sound like their striving to be mature and insightful but completely fail in that regard. The best we get is that the sex he is having causes "pain" and "pleasure", is a "paradise" as well as a "war zone", takes place at both a "slow" and "high" tempo, that he is being held "hard" and "mellow", and that his lover is both his "enemy" and his "ally". I mean, wow, not only is his sex this thing, but it is also the exact opposite thing as well! That really is all the wisdom we get here, and it really isn't doing anything for me.

The best we get in the way of sexual imagery here is that they're going to "piss off the neighbours" with the noise they are making, and if that is the best you can do, then you have failed massively.

Furthermore, the lyrics have this violent undertone to it as well, with the mentions of the happenings being "dirty and raw" and that there is "fighting", it is a "war zone" and that they are "prisoners". These lyrics just paint a picture to me that this sex isn't consensual, but sounds rather "rape-y", for lack of a better word.

If anything, this is just proof that leaving One Direction has done nothing to improve Zayn's artistic credentials.
